jan 2, 1850 - Nativism
Description:
/Nativism is a policy of favoring native inhabitants as opposed to immigrants./ Around this time, Nativists have condemned immigration and asserted the superiority of Protestant religion and culture. Catholicism is still seen as a “foreign church”, and there is a fear that immigrants would take jobs. The Nativists produced anti-immigrant literature and artwork to promote their beliefs. This causes a lot of violence in cities like Boston, where Catholic churches and schools were burned to the ground.
