Description:
/The Catholic governor of Spanish Florida promised freedom to runaway slaves. There were seventy-five slaves that led the revolt in South Carolina, near Stono River. /They killed whites, burned homes and barns, and beat drums to attract followers. The South Carolina militia stop the rebellion, which resulted in forty-four slaves being killed. The rebellion led to the tightening of the South Carolina slave codes and a cut down on slave imports.
