(1670) In the last quarter of the 17th century, African slaves became the dominant labor force in Virginia. /Many of the states at the time used the Caribbean as a template for slavery. /In the Caribbean, sugar was the primary crop and the colonists imported enslaved Africans to work the sugar plantations. By 1690, in Barbados, whites were out numbered by enslaved Africans 3-1. One of the only states that did not have slavery was Georgia, which was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe. The Imperial slave Economy was also huge during this period.
