jan 1, 1700 - 6. African Slavery

Description:

*When White settlers stopped using Indentured Servitude as their primary source of human labor, they turned to African Slavery.* The slave trade had been ongoing since the early 15th Century, and many European colonies had begun removing people from Africa and sending them to the New World across the Atlantic for human labor. This was especially popular in South America and the Caribbean, but it hadn't quite taken off yet it America. However, following Bacon's rebellion, White settlers, especially those in the south, would turn to African slavery as their primary source of human labor. These slaves were treated much harsher than the Indentured Servants, the biggest example being the Middle Passage, which saw slaves packed into ships and sent across the Atlantic. Conditions were bad on the ships, and about 20% would die during the journey.
