jan 1, 1607 - 2. Jamestown
Description:
*After a failed attempt of a colony at Roanoke, which saw the entire population mysteriously disappear, the British established their first permanent settlement in the USA at Jamestown in 1607.* The person for who it was named for, King James I, gave the Virginia Company a charter for a New World settlement. King James I intended for the colony to become a location for White settlers to trade with the Natives, and placed it on the James River to make trading easier.
