*Jefferson needed more space in North America to produce a thriving country.* Louisiana was once held in possession by Spain, but was then taken over by France in a Treaty. After France did not want it anymore, he eventually bought it for 15 million dollars. However, in the beginning all he wanted was New Orleans for 10 million dollars. He came up with a huge steal that would help his Agrarian society thrive and prosper.
