jun 2, 1833 - Force Bill
Description:
The force bill was one way Andrew Jackson expanded presidential powers. This bill allowed the president to use the army and navy to collect tariffs. This kind of law was unprecedented and angered the southern states, who were already mad about tariffs, even more. These impositions of presidential power led some southern states to threaten secession if there wasn’t a change. Eventually, the tariffs were lowered and secession was avoided.
