mar 3, 1803 - Louisiana Purchase

Description:

In 1803 America wanted to buy the city of New Orleans from France. Instead, France, which was fighting a war at the time, needed money and offered the Louisiana territory to the U.S. This conflicted with Jefferson’s beliefs and his plan for the Revolution of 1800. Jefferson pushed a stricter interpretation of the constitution, yet the constitution never says the president can buy land. Evidently, Jefferson dropped this perspective on the constitution in order to buy the land.
