oct 14, 1776 - Declaration of Independence
Description:
Finally, after so much egregious behavior on the part of the British crown like the Boston Massacre, the colonies decided to declare their independence from Britain. The First Continental Congress acted as a stepping stone towards this decision. They did so with the declaration of independence, a document outlining their reasoning for wanting, and the right to having, independence as a free nation. Its main author was Thomas Jefferson, and it had a lot of influence from the enlightenment period like the views of John Locke.
