jun 13, 1773 - Coercive Acts

Description:

The coercive acts were a response to the Boston Tea Party throwing tea into the Boston harbor. These acts had four parts. The first part closed the Boston Harbor until the money lost was paid back. The second made Massachusetts a royal colony and stripped the colony of its self-government. Thirdly the coercive acts allowed for British citizens to be tried outside of the colonies if they felt a fair trial could not be held there. Finally, it mandated that that troops could occupy private property if there was not enough lodging for them. The British government wanted to crack down hard on rebellion especially after the Boston Massacre.
