nov 13, 1712 - Salutary Neglect
Description:
Salutary neglect was the period from 1689-1754 where the British Crown ignored colonial affairs and allowed the colonies to govern themselves. Colonies enjoyed loose enforcement of laws like taxes and tariffs. People began to like this feeling of freedom and it eventually became a valued part of colonial life. Parliament was controlled by merchants at the time, and they feared increased royal government or interference would disrupt trade between England and the colonies.
