jan 1, 1774 - First Continental Congress

Description:

**Colonial representatives met in a response to the Coercive Acts.** They wanted the king to reestablish colonial rights, agreed to a boycott of all British goods, and began preparing for potential military confrontation. King George rejected the petitions, declared Massachusetts to be in rebellion, and sent troops to squash it. This response from the king encouraged groups like Minutemen to form. It also becomes a reason for a Second Continental Congress to be held in 1775.
