sep 20, 1689 - The Caribbean

Description:

*The Caribbean islands of Jamaica and Barbados were two of the biggest producers of sugar.* These slaves that were in the Caribbean were also brought over via the South Atlantic System. Sugar was the biggest crop to come out of the Caribbean and it was hugely successful. The main reason for the success of sugar as a cash crop is because of the enormous amounts of slaves on the islands. In 1690, slaves outnumbered whites 3 to 1 on the island of Barbados. This use of slavery served as a template for slavery in the colonies in North America. Key Concept 2.2, I.
