jan 9, 1962 - Cuban Missile Crisis

Description:

Along with the H-Bomb incidents, this was the height of tensions in the Cold War, and the closest to direct conflict between the two superpowers. America did not want the USSR to hold missiles in Cuba, as it was a direct threat to the American population. This led to a naval blockade from the U.S around Cuba, and they threatened to fire if a Soviet ship passed them. Two messages were sent to Kennedy from Khrushchev: to not invade Cuba if the USSR took their missiles out, and to take their missiles out of Turkey. Kennedy accepted the first, but ignored the second.
