jan 1, 1502 - The first reported African slaves in the New World
Description:
The first slaves that arrived in the New World reached the island of Hispaniola, which is the modern Haiti and the Dominican Republic. These first slaves were sent by the merchant Juan de Córoba of Seville, who was the first to do it. However, Spanish authorities only allowed these merchants to only send one slave, but others could have two or three.
