Challenger Disaster occured on Januray 28, 1986 and involved 7 crew members. After 73 seconds after launched, Space Shuttle Challenger (OV-099) broke apart, killing all 7 members aboard, 5 of which were astronauts. The cause was an external tank explosion. The shuttle broke apart due to gasses in the external fuel tank being mixed, causing an explosion. Challenger Disaster remains as one of the US's worst disasters, due to the number of people watching live at the time.
