Mercantilism was a dominant economic philosophy that wealth was power and trade was very important. "The Technological innovations such as the caravel would help the mercantilism exploration process go much faster. The Merchants wanted to trade with new people so they hired sailors to go explore other and trade with others. When the sailors were exploring they would find other places and then trade with them new goods and come back with it which in turn would make it rarer and then make it cost more and the merchant could sell them for more and make more of a profit off it.
