jan 1, 1524 - The Bonfire of the Vanities
Description:
The bonfire of the vanities was a movement lead by Savonarola to rid Florence of unnecessary things so that people could live a more basic lifestyle free of sin. This is similar to the idea that Petrarch had of the pope living too lavish of a life. Savonarola believed similar things. There was a downside to this however, many of the works of great artists at the time were lost to this fire.
