Description:
A proposition put forth by the Whigs to ban slavery in all new territories gained from the Mexican War. This would have been a victory for anti-slavery supporters and effectively ended the slave debate in the west. This is defeated when President Zachary Taylor died of a mysterious stomach disease and his VP Millard Filmore did not support it.Added to timeline:
