The Aztec Empire fell to the Spanish conquistadors in 1521. The Spanish were led by conquistador Hernán Cortés who captured the city of Tenochtitlan. Before the destruction of the Aztecs, Cortés landed in and founded the city of Veracruz. Here he trained his army into a disciplined force.
