President Thomas S. Monson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announced that those who wished to serve a mission would now be encouraged to begin serving at the age of 18 for young men and 19 for young women; the previous ages were 19 for young men and 21 for young women.
1. Greatly impacted the number of serving missionaries, gaining over 20,000 during the first five years after the change
2. Future missionaries learning and/or teaching has proved more effective when done at a younger age
3. Increased number of missionaries, new missions, training centers, and converts to the church. This is all leading up to the final gathering of Israel
