Description:

In 1860, Garibaldi formed an army (known as the "Thousand") which overthrew the Bourbon monarchy in Sicily and Naples, capturing the southern Italian states for Piedmont-Sardinia. In early 1861, a national parliament convened and proclaimed Victor Emmanuel II king of a newly formed Kingdom of Italy.
