jun 15, 588 BC - Apries tries
to interfere
Description:
Pharaoh Apries had not learned the lesson of Pharaoh Necho 2 that you don't mess with the new power of Babylon and he dispatched an army to confront Nebuchadnezzar of Judah. Jeremiah 37/5.
The Babylonians, not seeking a further fight with Egypt because of the long campaign they had already exercised in Judah, discretely withdrew. This gave the people a false sense of security in the Egyptians and Jeremiah was falsely accused (37/11-14) of defecting to the Babylonians. He was locked up in prison (v15) and eventually transferred to the "court of the prison" where Zedekiah could keep an eye on him. v21
