aug 3, 1914 - Invasion of Belgium

Description:

On the 3rd of August 1914, Belgium was invaded by Germany, who claimed Luxemburg in 3 days. This was because of Germany’s Schlieffen Plan This violated Belgium’s neutrality which Britain was obligated to
protect from the Treaty of London made in 1839. This event made Britain join the war the day after. This event helped slow Germany down with the combination of the resistance between Belgium, Britain, and France, the most significant being Belgium troops holding up Germany at the forts of Liege.
