jan 1, 1507 - The First Reported Smallpox Case in the New World
Description:
The first outbreak of smallpox in the Americas was thought to be brought over first to Canada from Spanish sailors. The illness spread quickly throughout the immunologically vulnerable population of Central and South American natives. The disease was later brought to North America from French and British settlers in New France and New England, and in the north and west from Dutch traders.
