apr 6, 2000 - Palmyra, NY Temple Dedication

Description:

In Revelation 7:9 After this (the sealing of the 144,000) I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”

April 6, 2000 was the dedication of the Palmyra Temple and was the first (and only one of two to date) temple dedications televised to the masses of members over the age of 12. Palmyra was televised to the US & Canada and 2 years later Nauvoo was televised world-wide. Other than localized regional dedications, there hasn’t been one since.

Why does it sound like a temple dedication?
1. It says they are clothed in white robes.
2. The ‘throne of God’ refers to a Temple.
3. They have palms in their hands -- all members were requested to bring white hankies to represent the Palms thrown down before the Lord on his triumphant entry to Jerusalem.
4. Those hankies were used for the Hosanna Shout -- as mentioned in vs. 10.
5. Verse 12 is a prayer -- it begins and ends with Amen.

This was also the 170th Anniversary of the Restoration
