jan 1, 1928 - magnetic tape

Description:

Fritz Plfeumer invented magnetic tape in 1928 in Germany. The magnetic tape was made of Ferric Oxide covering a tape of paper. This allowed recorded audio to be cut with scissors and stuck back together with glue, this allowed people to edit recorded audio for the first time ever. This invention was very important for the invention of computers, as people could now store information. Magnetic tape was first used to record computer data on the Eckert-Muchly UNIVAC 1 in 1951. Magnetic tape recordings could be played on the magnetaphone
