Description:

The Vitaphone allowed filmmakers to add sound to their previously silent films. The device completely changed the film industry. However it was big and bulky and was soon replaced by the Movietone.

Created in 1925, the Movietone sound system was a method of recording sound that uses the same strip of film used to capture the images. The Movietone was very efficient due to the fact that everything was recorded in one place, meaning it was very easy to use. It also meant that both the audio and video would be perfectly in sync which made the viewing experience much better.
