The first ever public HDTV broadcast was of the launch of the space shuttle Discovery. This was a giant leap for television as it allowed people to watch shows in greater detail have have more appreciation for the stories shown.

Nowadays, High Definition is just seen as normal and most if not all televisions come with HD as a basic features. 4K resolution is the new and exciting feature when it comes to TVs but that wouldn't have been possible without the initial invention of High Definition Televisions.
