may 28, 1685 - Edict of Fontainebleu

Description:

Because of Louis XIV's philosophy of "One king, one law, one faith," he wanted all of France to be Catholic. He did not want any threats to his divine right monarchy, which was what gave him most of his influence. He issued this edict (which was a revocation of the edict of Nantes, 1598) and expelled all Huguenots from France and also destroyed Protestant schools and churches.
