Description:
Central plamambulatory mosaics of Santa Costanza depict putti harvesting grapes and making wine, motifs associated with Bacchus, but for a Christian, the scenes evoked the Eucharist and Christ’s blood.
At Santa Costanza, the architect modified the interior design of those Roman buildings to accom- modate an ambulatory, a ringlike barrel-vaulted corridor separated from the central domed cylinder by a dozen pairs of columns.
