(1689-1725): Peter the Great of Russia is known for making Russia a great nation, and westernizing Russia. Throughout all his life he was obsessed with the Western European nations and wanted Russia to catch back up as they were behind in almost everything to them. This effected Europe because one of the biggest nations could now be considered a great power, or threat.
