The Dutch East India Company was a trading company under government sponsorship that served as a base to supply food and other provisions to Dutch ships en route of the Spice Islands. It developed a permanent colony.
The Dutch East India Company was very aggressive because of the mercantalist economy. In order to gain more, you needed to defeat other countries. They worked violently in order to gain a monopoly.
