jun 23, 609 BC - Battle of Megiddo
Description:
2 Chron 35/20-27 This Battle of Megiddo is recorded as having taken place in 609 BC when Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt led his army to Carchemish (northern Syria) to join with his allies, the fading Neo-Assyrian Empire, against the surging Neo-Babylonian Empire. Josiah, King of Judah confronts Pharaoh Necho II at Megiddo and is defeated, dying back in Jerusalem. (Pharaoh Necho II makes Judah a 'vassel' state and appoints Jehoiakim a puppet king instead of Jehoahaz who is deposed and taken to Egypt.) This battle at Megiddo essentially delayed the march north of Pharaoh Necho II who was eventually defeated with Assyria at the Battle of Charchemish around 605BC. It spelled the beginning of the end of the Egyptian era too..
