Description:

The steadicam allowed filmmakers to use handheld shots while also keeping the stability of a camera dolly.

The camera is connected directly to the cameraman via a special vest which supports the weight of the camera. This keeps the shots balanced and free from and shakiness. The steadicam allows cameramen to do actions such as jump over a fence whilst also keeping a steady shot.

A famous shot where a steadicam is used is the bicycle race through the hotel halls in The Shining.
