mar 6, 476 - Germanians Take Over Rome

Description:

After Alaric sacked Rome in 410, he started the ultimate decline of the Roman empire. Over the next few decades Rome lost Carthage, Britannia, Sicily, parts of Gaul and a whole lot of soldiers and wealth in the process (Wikipedia, 2017). The city itself was sacked by the Vandals (more Germanians), and there was really no hope (Andrews, 2015). The end was coming near, and Odoacer, a Germanic prince, decided to take advantage of that fact. On September 4, 476 CE, he deposed the current Western Roman Emperor Romulus Augustus and effectively took over Rome. This is viewed as the official end of the Roman Empire (Wikipedia, 2017) since at this point the Eastern part of the Empire was viewed more as the Byzantine Empire. So there it is, the ultimate fall of Rome.
