jan 1, 1967 - Indigenous Australians get to vote

Description:

Indigenous Australians only got the right to vote in 1967 which in my opinion is way too late. The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1962 received approval on 21 May 1962. It granted the right for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have the option to enrol and vote in federal elections. Enrolment was not compulsory for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, unlike other Australians. Once enrolled, however, voting was compulsory. The change took place in the same century when Indigenous Australian were regarded as flora and fauna.
