Gold was first discovered when two women went to wash their clothes in a creek near where they were living. They found gold miraculously. Still many websites say that Edward Hargraves found gold in May 1851 near Orange. Hargraves may have found a payable amount of gold, however, maybe the women who found gold when washing clothes only found a small amount.Added to timeline:
