Description:
Since 1920, Iraq had been a League of Nations Mandate called the State of Iraq that was under British control. The British appointed the client ruler, as well as government and ministry officials. Independence was granted a decade later after King Faisal encouraged Britain to do so. Britain continued to maintain military bases that were stationed in Iraq.
