Description:

Following WWI, the British government took control of Palestine. The British suggested the Jewish people settle the land, but the Arabs were opposed. At the end of WWII, Jews were turned away from Palestine but were continued to be smuggled in anyway. The Jewish population began to grow politically, and on May 14, when the British mandate over Palestine ended, David Ben-Gurion declared Israel a new nation. President Truman of the United States acknowledged the new nation the same day.
