Description:

Dating from the 3rd or early 2nd century BCE, ALD is a narrative text about the patriarch of the Israelite priesthood. Recounting events from his life in first person, Levi offers a prayer and instructs his children in cultic and ethical issues. ALD is preserved in mss from Qumran, 1Q21, 4Q213-214b. Overlap with the later Greek testament of Levi, which had ALD as a source text, helps reconstruct the order and some content of ALD. (Nickelsburg 2005: 159ff)
