jan 1, 1778 - British begin colonising Australia
Description:
In 1778, the British began establishing penal colonies on the east coast of Australia. With the newly arriving prisoners came diseases that ravaged the Aboriginal Australians as the diseases brought by the British were new to them so they had not had time to build up immunities to them.
The British also began to cease aboriginal land for there settlements and farms. Though there were many small clashes between the colonisers and the Aboriginals there was no large scale resistance which causes many of indigenous folk to be forced off their land causing them to become impoverished and up to 20,000 perished.
