jan 1, 1905 - John Newport Langley

Description:

John Newport Langley was the first to formulate the basic ideas of the concept of specific receptors that bind drugs or transmitter substances onto the cell in 1905. Drug receptors remained hypothetical entities until the end of the 1960s. The development of receptor-subtype specific pharmaceuticals promoted the acceptance of the receptor concept in pharmacology. Receptors began to be isolated as specific proteins of the cell membrane and that their composition and conformation began to be explored in the 1970s.
