jan 1, 1000 BC - Coniine
Description:
The use of coniine has been used for thousands of years by vastly different civilizations. It is an alkaloid naturally found in hemlock, which is extremely poisonous. Socrates died by coniine as early as 399 BC, but it was around long before that and also used by Native Americans for poison arrows. Coniine was one of the most pivotal milestones for human civilization, as it helped shape chemical regulations and was the first alkaloid ever synthesized in 1886. It was a favorite among aristocrats to murder their enemies and friends and indirectly helped to shape the way our society is run and regulated.
