Mexico was conquered by Cortes in 1521, but the first newspaper did not appear until 1722. Those 201 years were not without journalism, though, because news pamphlets known as hojes volutes, or flying sheets, were used to give details of extraordinary events all throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth century.Added to timeline:
