apr 19, 1770 - Captain Cook 'Discovers' Australia
Description:
On the 19th of April 1770, Captain James Cook 'discovered' Australia, while he was secretly searching for Terra Australis Incognita, or The Great Southern Land.He began his 'mission' on the 27th of May 1768, with a handful of men on his crew, aboard the HMS Endeavor.
Other than search for The Great South Land, he had two other goals for this journey. The first, to establish an observatory on Tahiti and watch the transit of Venus. And the second, to record the natural history of the country with, then aged 25, Joseph Banks.
