jan 1, 1968 - Westfield Neighborhood Council Formed
Description:
With the assistance of several groups including the Westfield Civic Improvement Association, the Union County Anti-Poverty Program, the Temple Emanu-El of Westfield, and several other religious groups and citizens, the Cacciola Neighborhood Council was formed by residents of the Cacciola area. The group worked to resolve issues with the community concerning employment and housing. They also provided assistance in tutoring and offering legal advice. Following their founding, the Council often worked in cooperation with other local civil rights organizations to host programs focused on poverty issues, which disproportionately impacted the Black community.
