Description:
The Works Progress Administration was a New Deal agency that employed millions of job-seekers to carry out public works projects in the wake of the Great Depression. The WPA employed 350,000 African-Americans, about 15% of its workforce, and made significant contributions to African-American culture and history. In Westfield, the WPA made several improvements to the Armory that included the construction of drill fields, drives, drains, and landscape changes.
