Description:
The Geneva city council accepted Calvin's church constitution, and the city was then ruled by religion. He set up the Consistory to enforce moral discipline. It oversaw moral life and purity of the citizens of Geneva. The Consistitory got more and more violent as time went on, going from "fraternal corrections" to whipping and exocommunication.
