Description:
During February 1851 a man called Edward Hargraves was said to have discovered the first piece of payable gold. He was returning from the Californian gold rush, he picked up mining tips and advice from other miners in California. After returning to Australia and going to a town near orange called Ophir. He was also accompanied by a man called Lister and they had a niggling feeling that gold was all around them. They were not wrong and before long they brought out their pans and cradles and started looking in the river nearby. That’s when Hargraves found the first piece of gold in Australia. Creating the Australian gold rush and the very memorable Eureka Stockade.
